In support of our students’ successful transitions to Grade 9, we invite students to participate in an Early Entry Day program. Baltimore County Public Schools is excited to announce that it will host a half-day “Early Entry Day" on Monday, August 22, 2016, for students entering Grade 9 for the 2016–2017 school year. Students will participate in a wide variety of activities – designed based on student feedback – to become more familiar with their new school setting prior to the start of school. Students will review their class schedules, visit their lockers, take school tours, participate in Class of 2020 events, and meet all their teachers and school counselors.
Transportation will be provided for those students who are scheduled to take a bus to school. Those students will be picked up at their assigned bus stops at their regularly scheduled times and will be transported home at the end of the half-day schedule. A complimentary lunch will be served to all participating students, and students will be able to add funds to their cafeteria accounts in preparation for the first day of school.
The Early Entry Day on the 22nd is for students only. As a reminder, PHS’ Freshmen Orientation will take place for parents on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. If you have not done so already, please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org including your child’s name, your name, cell phone number, and best email address.
We encourage only parents to attend Freshmen Orientation. In addition to attending thoughtfully- designed informational sessions, we will be viewing a necessary video on being a Lighthouse School and signing a device agreement form. A further requirement for obtaining a device is for every student to have a BCPS One photo ID card. If your child has been in BCPS, and lives in this school zone, a new card will be afforded to him/her. Students who are new to BCPS, will have to get their picture taken for a new ID at the school. Please note that these cards are to be worn daily in school. If lost, there is a $5.00 replacement fee. If you are unable to attend Freshmen Orientation, for your convenience, we will have video-viewing stations set up in the cafeteria from 8:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. on August 19th, and again on August 22nd. After which, you will have the opportunity to complete the necessary paper work so that your child can receive his/her device.
We are looking forward to welcoming our new Grade 9 students on Monday, August 22, 2016, and, while not required, we hope your child will take advantage of this opportunity. The first regular day of school for all students is Wednesday, August 24, 2016. Please note that homeroom begins daily at 7:40 a.m. and the day ends at 2:10 p.m. Thank you, and Welcome to the Family of PHS- Home of Panther PRIDE, HONOR, AND SUCCESS!!!
